Frequently Asked Questions
Live Singing Session Questions
Will anyone hear me sing?
No! Not unless they are in the same room as you! Singer microphones are muted during the sessions, and it’s up to you whether you want to put your camera on.
What if I don't like singing in my home?
Firstly – you’ll be muted so we wont be able to hear you.
If you don’t want family members or neighbours to hear, you can always sing quietly and turn the class volume up above you, or evening humming along will still be healthy.
Top tip: you could even join on your phone and sing in the car (though this isn’t as good posturally, and definitely do not join the sessions when driving, of course!)
Are the classes recorded and can I watch them back?
Yes, we record the sessions and you can access the past 7 recordings via the "Videos" section of the site. And don't worry, we only record the teacher view, not the singers.
Do I need to buy music?
You don’t need to buy sheet music to join the live sessions, all the music is guided through on Zoom
However, sheet music is a fantastic way to develop your singing and practice at home! Before you buy though, it’s a good idea to make sure you have the right version and key for your voice.
What technical gadgets do I need at home?
You don’t need anything except a device with Zoom to join the session. You can access Zoom on your laptop, computer, phone or tablet.
General Singing Questions
Does Vocal Tapas replace singing lessons?
These sessions will give you many of the elements (actually, plus a few!) that you would receive in singing lessons, so they make a great addition to lessons. Vocal Tapas is also a great way to try out singing on your own before starting lessons, or you can use Vocal Tapas as a stop-gap if you have not had singing lessons for a while.
We do absolutely encourage you to take singing lessons! Personal lessons offer the important element of individualized feedback, to accelerate your development. If you would like a 1:1 singing lesson, you can book in with Dan at Vocal Tapas.
Do I need to be a certain level in order to join Vocal Tapas?
No! Vocal Tapas is open to everyone, whether or not you have any singing experience. The live Zoom sessions are structured in such a way that it does not assume you have singing experience. You can then take what you have learned and rehearse more in your own time if you want to build your repertoire and technique. But it’s absolutely not compulsory to do extra practice! Carving out 20 minutes regularly for ‘me time’ and your own singing practice can result in a huge transformation in your voice - we believe that singing little does more for your development than longer but infrequent rehearsal time.
